The Blue Barrel in the Garden

(Acrylic on canvas panel, 2008) This blue barrel caught my eye when I visited Tower Hills Botanic Gardens (in Boylston, MA) with my artist friend this past summer. It was a striking accent to this garden on a particularly warm day. The cool-water-blue color perhaps should have informed the observer to warn her friend of the sprinkler nearby. Ellen, who had set up her easel beyond the hedge, found her pastel box nearly washed away by the rivulet forming from the sprinkler run-off. Her painting, thankfully, was salvaged.
