September Colorburst
(Acrylic on canvas panel, 2008)
My most vivid memory from kindergarten was the day Mrs. Olsen distributed a new eight-pack box of crayons to each of her eager 5-year-old students. Along with the magnificent brilliant colors, we received a HUGE blank sheet of “oak tag” paper with the instructions to fill the page. A license to create was issued and I never looked back. A better gift I could not have received! This little painting with its bright burst of color reminds me of the fresh box of crayons and the art that ensued that day in September of 1959.
